Our Story
Harford Gymnastics was founded in 1979 by Frank Yapps who was a full scholarship gymnast from Temple University with a degree in physical education. Through Harford Gymnastics he could share his enthusiasm and love for the sport of gymnastics with children. His wife Teresa, a collegiate scholarship gymnast, joined the Harford Gymnastics staff in the summer of 1979 while earning a physical education degree from Towson State University. She began assisting Frank as director in 1984 when the program tripled enrollment. Frank created a program that utilizes gymnastics to help children build a strong foundation for life. Goal setting, perseverance, courage, leadership, teamwork, responsibility, pride, and self confidence are a focus of his program as each student strives to reach their full gymnastics potential under the tutelage of Harford Gymnastics great staff.
Frank passed away in 2004, but his legacy and spirit is carried on by Director, Teresa and the rest of the outstanding staff who embrace Frank's founding philosophies. Harford Gymnastics continues to build strong bodies, improve coordination, increase flexibility, develop agility and encourage physical fitness as it builds character and confidence, self control and discipline, physical capabilities & and cognitive processing.
Harford's gymnasts have earned State, Regional, and National Titles through the dedication and hard work of our gymnasts, coaches, and parents. Many of our gymnasts have gone on to pursue gymnastics at the collegiate level including some earning full ride scholarships for NCAA Division I Gymnastics.
We are quite proud of the tradition that has been built through the dedicated and supportive efforts of so many from our gymnastics "family" over the years.
